How to verify domain ownership with a TXT record

On Web-Universe.com, you get a unique verification code for your domain, add it as a TXT record at @ (root) at your DNS provider, and confirm it with "Verify Ownership" in the DNS check of your domain. After that you may remove the record; the verified status stays saved.

Why you need to verify ownership

A domain cannot be published on Web-Universe.com without verified ownership. Only someone who controls the DNS settings can add the code, so the TXT record shows that the domain is yours.

For bundles, all domains must be verified.

Step by step: verify your domain

You need a free Web-Universe.com account and access to the DNS settings of your domain.

  1. Add your domain as a draft.

    Create the domain in your dashboard. A draft is free.

  2. Open the DNS check and copy your code.

    Open the "DNS Check" page of your domain in the dashboard. The "Ownership Verification" panel shows a unique code for this domain. It starts with web-universe-.

  3. Create the TXT record at your DNS provider.

    Type: TXT. Host/Name: @ or . (root level of your domain). Value: your verification code.

    Do not enter this example. Copy your real code from the DNS Check page in your dashboard; it starts with web-universe-.

  4. Wait until the DNS change is visible.

    How long this takes depends on your DNS provider.

  5. Click "Verify Ownership".

    You find the button in the "Ownership Verification" panel. Web-Universe.com then looks up the TXT records of your domain and checks whether one contains your code. On success you see "Domain ownership verified successfully".

  6. Remove the record if you like.

    You may delete the TXT record after verification. The verified status stays saved.

Common problems

General

The tips below are general DNS knowledge, not specific to one provider. The first one quotes the message of the platform.

  • "TXT record not found"

    This is what Web-Universe.com shows when the check finds no matching record: "TXT record not found. Please add the record to your DNS and try again." The check looks at the TXT records of exactly your domain at the root level. Check that the record is set at the root (@) of the domain you want to verify, not at a subdomain.

  • The value does not match.

    Check the code for typing errors. Copy it from your dashboard instead of typing it.

  • The change is not visible yet.

    DNS changes are not applied everywhere at once. Wait and try again.

You do not need A or AAAA records to verify ownership with the TXT record. They are optional and only needed if the Web-Universe.com landing page should be shown under your domain. Listings whose A or AAAA record points to our server show a "Verified" badge, and "Verified & Connected" once the domain is connected to our infrastructure.

Alternative to the TXT record: if your A or AAAA record points to our server and you run the DNS check, ownership is confirmed automatically.

Published domains are re-checked automatically every 24 hours. If the records no longer point to our server, the connection to our infrastructure is removed.

Once your domain is verified, you can publish it and receive inquiries. Your first listing is free and active for 6 months. There is no commission on the sale.
